Maple Leaf

This is one of my contributions to #Crochet Crowd's Project Maple. I needed use both the pattern instructions and the video to get it right.

I was just thinking of writers who are hacks and realized
that I may've been too harsh on them. My interest in writing
started with the Transformers G1 show. The episodes were
written by professional script writers who had no emotional
attachment to the show because there wasn't a past body of
work to be familiar with. They didn't grow up loving TFs
like we did and had no time to form any affection or
knowledge of the characters. All they had were dry pitches
and profiles to work from. It was a paycheque. Yet they
created something we kids ate up and loved.
I'm not saying they were cynically pandering to us, I'm saying
what they brought to the table was a work ethic. They weren't
in love with TF's but were determined to write an engaging story
and honestly earn the paycheque they were given. Maybe it wasn't
even a work ethic on their own part, but someone above them had
a "we won't take crap" philosophy and they had to produce
something up to standard. What this teaches me as a writer is
I don't have to start out being in love with my characters to
write a decent story. I hope I never write about a character and
world I despise, but if I start out dry but am determined to
put some honest effort into a creating a decent product I may
create something that really resonates with people. So it's not
hacks that are bad, its slackers not willing to write the best
story that they're capable of that is bad, but that is another
subject that I could rant about.

thanks for the comment. i didn't use regular clay, for this is a bit more stiff and not as 'mushy' as regular clay. it's colored white, and i just call it modelling paste. ^^;
